September 26th, 2011 0 Comments

I’ve been looking for systems that will allow candidates to keep track of jobs that they’ve applied for. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
Mike

Google Latest

September 21st, 2011 0 Comments

Finally I have my Google+ account, (along with everyone else) and the key question is how will this help with recruitment and careers… I’ll be researching this over the next few weeks so check back, but in the meantime let me know of any interesting ways that you’ve found to use it to further your career or find those elusive candidates!

Also, while I’m on Google I just read this about Google’s Wallet – watch out paypal!

Hi

I’m trying to find out what proportion of people do some form of work while they are on vacation..

So I have created a few simple questions. If you complete the Survey, I will put your name into the hat for some PharmiWeb.com freebies. I’ve got mugs, pens, mouse mats, and all sorts of goodies.

Thanks for your help!

What’s NOT a domain name?

An interesting piece by Naseem Javed published on PharmiWeb.com

Esther Dyson the Great Dame of Silicon Valley, at times matriarch to Bill Gates and many other lads on the innovative circuit, wrote a harsh column August 26th on GPS CNN on ICANN gTLD. I like and respect Esther especially her technical background, we have shared the podium, but as this topic deals with the centrality of global corporate nomenclature it demands an authoritative analysis and I feel it’s my responsibility to clarify and taken the liberty to address her entire piece item by item.

Google gets $500m fine for illegal drug ads

August 25th, 2011 0 Comments

Google has reportedly reached a $500m “agreement” with US prosecutors for accepting Adwords adverts from companies selling unlicensed drugs into the USA from Canada.

Canadian companies are not allowed to sell unlicensed drugs into the US, but even though Google were (apparently) aware, they continued to run adwords adverts doing exactly that.

Twitter Promoted Tweets rolled out further

August 15th, 2011 0 Comments

Twitter is rolling out its “promoted tweets” service further in an attempt to (finally) make money from its huge user base. Will this be of any use to recruiters? Well maybe, but at the moment its only on test, but I’ll be keeping an eye on it.

Its an obvious way to go, and will be competing with Adwords et al, with the main difference being that its “time based”. ie once its gone, its gone. No doubt it will live or die on its cost per click and how effective it is. Either way it will no doubt be another tool in the recruiter’s armoury.

Well done Kiddicare

August 5th, 2011 0 Comments

It’s not often I’m impressed by online service, but this week I ordered a child’s play toy, and, being a man, left it to the last minute.

Using a link I’d been given (“buy one of these”), I found myself on the Kiddicare website. Expecting all sorts of problems getting what I wanted in time,   I was pleasantly surprised to find that the item was in stock.  Next I was then expecting to have to pay a surcharge for fast delivery. Yet again I was impressed.. next day delivery if ordered before 5:00 pm. I was in luck.

Out came the credit card, and I placed my order. Normally that’s the end of it until I hear the knock at the door, but on this occasion my expectations were exceeded after receiving a text (and an email) saying my Kiddicare order had been shipped and was on its way.

The next morning at 8:11, yet another text to say it was due to be with me between 13:16 and 14:16, and a selection of text response options should I wish to reschedule delivery. I got a nice clear email too. I’m liking it.

Nice work Kiddicare…  keeping the customer informed all the way through the process –  there are many companies that could learn a lot from you.

OK so what’s all this Google+ about then?

August 1st, 2011 0 Comments

When Google come up with a new idea, its normally worth checking out. And cleverly, for several of these more recent ideas (Wave, Buzz) they create a pent-up demand by limiting the number of people who can get access. I’m currently one of those who doesn’t have access, and who is getting frustrated. I guess part of the reason is to “manage” roll out, just in case 50 million people start using the system on the first day… but for the rest of us, especially those who like to be (or need to be) ahead of the curve, it becomes more and more annoying to read articles about “how to use Google+ in your job search” or “7 Ways Google+ Users Are Getting More Out of Their Circles

So come on Google – let us all have a play now.
